Revelation of Christ

Outline of “The Revelation Of Jesus Christ of Things that must shortly come to Pass"

 Bible Studies

Revelation 1-22

Revelation 1 -  Message to the Seven Churches {on the Sabbath Day) from the Sanctuary which is in heaven: Rev. 1:10-20; Exodus 25:9

  • He that keepeth Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. If the candlesticks were left to the care of human beings, how often the light would flicker and go out! But God has not given his church into the hands of men. Christ, the One who gave his life for the world, that all who believe in him may not perish but have everlasting life, is the Watchman of the house. He is the Warder, faithful and true, of the temple courts of the Lord. {RH May 26, 1903}
  • The whole Bible is a revelation; for all revelation to men comes through Christ, and all centers in him. God has spoken unto us by His Son, whose we are by creation and by redemption. Christ came to John exiled on the isle of Patmos to give him the truth for these last days, to show him that which must shortly come to pass. Jesus Christ is the great trustee of divine revelation. It is through him that we have a knowledge of what we are to look for in the closing scenes of this earth's history. God gave this revelation to Christ, and Christ communicated the same to John.' (20Mr 150.11)

Revelation 2-3 -  Christ is in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks (in the Sanctuary in Heaven), walking from church to church, from congregation to congregation, from heart to heart.

  • “These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand.” The words are spoken to the teachers in the church,—those entrusted by God with weighty responsibilities. The sweet influences that are to be abundant in the church are bound up with God’s ministers, who are to reveal the precious love of Christ. The stars of heaven are under his control. He fills them with light. He guides and directs their movements. If he did not do this, they would become fallen stars. So with his ministers. They are but instruments in his hands, and all the good they accomplish is done through his power. Through them his light is to shine forth. The Saviour is to be their efficiency. If they will look to him as he looked to his Father, they will do his work. As they make God their dependence, he will give them his brightness to reflect to the world. { RH May 26, 1903, par. 3 }
  • Christ walks in the midst of his churches through the length and breadth of the earth. He looks with intense interest to see whether his people are in such a condition spiritually that they can advance his kingdom. He is present in every assembly of the church. He knows those whose hearts he can fill with the holy oil, that they may impart it to others. Those who faithfully carry forward the work of Christ, representing in word and deed the character of God, fulfill the Lord’s purpose for them, and Christ takes pleasure in them. { RH May 26, 1903, par. 4 }

Revelation 4 Judgment of the Dead Begins with the opening of the door in heaven: Rev. 4:1-11

  1. Door opened in heaven – Throne Set up, Judgment scene:  (1844) End of 2300 days Daniel 7:9; Daniel 8:13-27
  2. Day of Atonement Lev. 23:26-32
  3. Description of the Heavenly Sanctuary, the judgment scene, the throne with the sea of glass, the four beasts and the twenty four elders.
  4. “And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices” (Judgement of the Dead) Rev. 4:5

Revelation 5- Book with seven seals opened by the Lamb Rev. 5:1-14

  1. It is the Lamb’s book that cannot be opened by any man because it is the book written by the Lamb: Exodus 32:32
  2. “And I beheld, and lo, in the midst of the throne,……… stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.” Rev:5:6
  3. “Thou are worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou was slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood.”  Rev. 5:9

Revelation 6 & 7 – First six seals opened (History of The World from Adam to 144,000 and the Great Multitude)

  1. The First Seal – THE WHITE HORSE- (4000 BC) The sealing time from the time of Adam to Noah’s Message; followed by the(flood) judgment of the First Trumpet. Rev. 6:2 & 8:7
  2. The Second Seal – THE RED HORSE – (2400 BC) The sealing time from after the flood; during this time peace was taken from the earth. (The tower of Babel destroyed, the calling of Abram out of the land of Ur; Sodom destroyed, Moses leading Exodus out of Egypt and Egypt destroyed.  Thus there was a judgment a great mountain (Church with a message containing the sacrificial system) burning with fire fell on those who did not follow the present truth in the Second Trumpet.  Rev. 6:3 & 8:8
  3. The Third Seal – THE BLACK HORSE – (2100 BC) The sealing time from the Exodus Movement to Moses writing the first five books of the Bible.  The judgment of the Third Trumpet Started when a “great star fell from heaven, burning as a lamp,” which is the Word of God and ends with the closing of the Old Testament.   Rev. 6:5, 6 & 8:10, 11
  4. The Fourth Seal – THE PALE HORSE – (27 AD) The Sealing time in which God’s Kingdom on earth lived subject to the Roman Empire. (From Crucifixion to the Augsburg Confession {1530} a fourth part of the earth, 6,000 years divided by 4).   In The judgment of the Fourth Trumpet a third part of the sun, moon and stars are smitten by darkness which is symbolic of the church on earth. (see Gen. 37:9, 10)   Rev. 6:7, 8 & Rev. 8:12   This is also the opening of the New Testament.
  5. The Fifth Seal – SOULS UNDER THE ALTAR – (1500 AD) The Sealing time during which the Christians were persecuted and slain like Locusts.  The judgment in the Fifth Trumpet came when Christ (The Star) came (fell) from heaven and was given the key to the bottomless pit (earth Rev. 20:1) and He opened the pit by the smoke of His sacrifice and became the sacrificial Lamb.  Christ came to this world to buy back the dominion that Adam lost when he sinned. Gen. 1:26  “The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,” Is. 61:1; Luke 4:18  Those who followed Christ and the preaching of the Christians (Locust) were sealed, those who did not have the seal were tormented a symbolical five months by the preaching of the gospel.   “And out of the smoke (His Sacrifice), came the locusts (Christians), who preached to the entire world Christ and Him Crucified.  “And the shapes of the locusts, were like unto horses prepared unto battle, and on their heads were crowns of gold, and their faces were as the faces of men and they had a king over them which is the angel of the bottomless pit (Christ ).”  Rev. 6:9-11 & 9:1-12
  6. The Sixth Seal – Sealing of the 144,000 from all twelve tribes of Israel  and the sealing of the Great Multitude from all the world (Babylon) and the destructive judgment of the Sixth Trumpet by 200,000,000 angels riding on horses (spirit filled preachers), which have a message of fire and brimstone coming from their mouths as lions for those who do not accept present truth and have the seal of the living God.  Rev. 6:6:12-7:1-17 & 9:13-20

Note: The trumpets follow the seals as the thread follows the needle, also that the seals and the trumpets overlap each other. First there is a sealing of those who accept present truth, then follows a destructive judgment for those who reject the message of present truth for the time in which they live.  The destructive judgments of the living begin in Chapter 8 of Revelation.

 Revelation 8:1, 3-5 The Seventh Seal- Judgment of the Living Begins with Purification of the Church.

  1. Silence in heaven for one half hour Rev. 8:1 (1/2 hour is 7 literal days) while the destructive judgment in the church is in process. See Ezekiel chapter 1 thru chapter 10;  Isaiah 63;  Leviticus 23:5-8
  2. Judgment of the living begins with the close of probation for God’s people:  “And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings and lightnings, and an earthquake.”  Rev. 8:5 (see also Ezekiel 10:2)

Revelation 8: 2, 6-12 The First Four Trumpets Sound at the opening of the Seventh Seal - Seven angels given seven trumpets Rev. 8:2 “And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound” Rev. 8:6

  1. In Revelation 8:1-6 there are two subjects mentioned: First the judgment of the living is opened with the destructive Judgment of the living in the church, “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God:” (1 Peter 4:17 and Ezekiel 9) and 2nd the Seven Angels are given Seven Trumpets containing the destructive judgments of those who do not have the seal of God.
  2. The Trumpets follow their seal:  Starting with the opening of the first seal through the fourth seal: The Bible records the history of the first four trumpets that have already sounded with their destruction.
  3. Revelations 8:7-12 The First Four Angels sound their trumpets:
    • Revelation 8:7 The First Angel Sounds – Hail & Fire mingled with blood were cast upon the earth.

    2. Revelation 8:10, 11 The Third Angel Sounds – A great star fell from heaven burning as a lamp (light). Ps. 119:105
    3. Revelation 8:12 The Fourth Angel Sounds – A third part of the sun, moon and stars were smitten with darkness.  Sun is symbolical of the heavenly Father and His light, the moon reflects light as does the church or mother (woman) and the stars are brethren (His people).  See Gen. 37:9, 10

Revelation 9 The Three Woe Trumpets – The Bible records the future trumpet destruction “of them that obey not the gospel of God”

Revelation 10 - Thunders Sound - “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open:….And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.”
  4. Revelation 11:1-14   CLOSE OF PROBATION FOR THE CHURCH – “Measure the temple of God…And the same hour was there a great earth quake” (shaking) Rev. 11:1, 13; Isiah 11:11; Isaiah 63; Ezekiel 9; Vol. 5 of the Testimonies p. 80, 82; EW p. 270

   3.  Revelation 11:15-19 The Seventh Trumpet Sounds CLOSE OF PROBATION FOR THE World “And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.” Rev. 11:15-19

                a. The Dragon's Crowns on the heads denote civil authority.
                b. The heads being crowned reveals that the churches of that time employed the civil arm of the state.
                c. The Romans crucified Christ at the demand of the Jews.
      3.  The Jewish Church “brought forth a male child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron:” Rev. 12:5

It is done.  And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.” Rev. 16:17, 18

 Notes:  Rev. 11:19

   The earthly temple's being patterned after the heavenly, shows that the heavenly temple is divided into two apartments -- the holy and the Most holy.  On the day of the atonement (judgment) in the earthly temple, the door to the Most holy was opened and the door to the holy was closed.  This service typified the commencement of the antitypical atonement (judgment), when the door to the Most holy in the heavenly temple was opened and the entrance to the holy was closed.  In other words, when the inner door was opened, the outer door was closed, thus making the two apartments as one. (See Leviticus 16:2, 17; Revelation 4:1; 15:5; Early Writings, p. 42.)  So the temple's being closed while the judgment is in session, makes it impossible for one on the outside to see "the ark of His testament," until after the judgment is completed,  when the door which was closed will again, according to Revelation 15:1, 5-8, be opened.

   Consequently, the fulfillment of the prophetic statement, "the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in His temple the ark of His testament" (Rev. 11:19), will, just as it was in the beginning of the Judgment, be realized after the judgment is finished; that is, after the close of probation, when the door of the temple is opened.  And after the judicial tribunal leaves the temple, "one of the four beasts" will give "unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God" (Rev. 15:7), and the temple will be "filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from His power; and no man" will be "able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels" are "fulfilled." Rev. 15:8. (For further explanation of Revelation 15 see The Shepherd's Rod, Vol. 2, pp. 170-173.)

The seals and the Trumpets.

Please note that in the Seven Seals and the Seven Trumpets that there are two subjects but the Seals and Trumpets cover the same period of time.

  1. The occupants of the earth have either been sealed with the “Seal of the Living God” or have denied the message sent in their generation and refused the “Seal”.   The Sealing started at Adam and will end with the people who live on the earth at the very end of time.  The Seal is only placed on the people who accept the message and obey it.   The last groups to be sealed are the 144,000 sealed from Israel and the Great Multitude which no man can number from all nations, kindreds and tongues.  Rev. 7:1-17
  2. After each period of Sealing a Trumpet sounds and destruction follows that specific time period.  The Trumpet’s destruction falls only those people who do not receive and obey the message given to their generation.  Rev. 8:4

  • First Seal and Trumpet Ends: with the destruction of the world in the time of Noah.
  • Second Seal and Trumpet Ends: with the destruction of Egypt in the time of the Exodus.
  • Third Seal and Trumpet: Ends and Begins with The Advent of the Bible: “and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp.”  Rev. 8:10
  • Fourth Seal and Trumpet: Israel (Sun, Moon & Stars) Sent to Babylon for disobedience and to teach the Babylonians about the true worship of God.  Rev. 8:12(The Great Image)
  • Fifth Seal and Trumpet: Christ, His Sacrifice and the Christians (Locusts)
  • Sixth Seal and Trumpet: 200,000,000 Spirit Filled preachers
  • Seventh Seal and Trumpet:  End of Probation for this world

 “Thereby it was shown that those who in each period rejected the truth as then taught to them, were not sealed, with the consequence they were destroyed by God's judgments upon them.  So as one subject unfolds the successive periods of sealing, the other subject correspondingly unfolds the ensuing periods of destruction: together showing that collectively they cover the same stretch of time.”  Tract 5, P. 35

World History is in the Seven Seals and Seven Trumpets by E.G. White

We hear the testimony of Isaiah: “For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all Kings thy glory; and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name. Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.”  Isaiah 62:1-3 “Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in His apparel, travelling in the greatness of His strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. Wherefore art Thou red in Thine apparel, and Thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with Me: for I will tread them in Mine anger, and trample them in My fury; and My blood shall be sprinkled upon their garments, and I will stain all My raiment. For the day of vengeance is in Mine heart, and the year of My redeemed is come.” {20MR 196.5} Isaiah 63:1-4

We ask John what he saw and heard in the vision at Patmos, and he answers: “And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.” {20MR 197.1}

There in His open hand lay the book, the roll of the history of God’s providences, the prophetic history of nations and the church. Herein was contained the divine utterances, His authority, His commandments, His laws, the whole symbolic counsel of the Eternal, and the history of all ruling powers in the nations. In symbolic language was contained in that roll the influence of every nation, tongue, and people from the beginning of earth’s history to its close. {20MR 197.2}

This roll was written within and without. John says: “I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.” The vision as presented to John made its impression upon his mind. The destiny of every nation was contained in that book. John was distressed at the utter inability of any human being or angelic intelligence to read the words, or even to look thereon. His soul was wrought up to such a point of agony and suspense that one of the strong angels had compassion on him, and laying his hand on him assuringly said, “Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.” {20MR 197.3}
