Iodine and the Thyroid
In his book Dr. Brownstein states:
“The relationship between thyroid function and iodine has been known for over 100 years. In order for the thyroid gland to make thyroid hormone, there must be adequate amounts of iodine present.”

Hypothyroidism – (Low Thyroid)
David Brownstein, M.D., in his book Overcoming Thyroid Disorders, states: “the enzyme that converts T4 to T3, 5’-Deiodinase, is dependent on adequate mineral levels. Particularly selenium and iodine levels.” p.78
In the same book Dr. Brownstein asks the question: Does the RDA for Iodine provide iodine Provide Optimal Amounts of Iodine for the Body? The answer to the above question is unequivocally “no”. The RDA for iodine does not provide the amount of iodine necessary to iodinate lipids and proteins which have many benefits including anticancer properties. The RDA for iodine is also inadequate to provide enough iodine for the rest of the body’s needs.” p.315
Chia and Flax Seeds
The Nutritional Value of Chia and Flax Seeds are Similar.
Chia and Flaxseed have a similar amount of omega-3 fatty acids in the form of alpha linolenic acid, (ALA). Chia seeds and Flaxseed are both excellent sources of fiber and both contain protein.
While they have slight variations in certain nutrient levels and specific benefits, one is not significantly healthier than the other.
Chia seeds make excellent puddings and fruit like Jello like fruit desserts and salads. General directions are add about 2 Tablespoons to a cup of almond milk, stir or shake for a pudding; for a thick Jello like fruit salad add about ¼ cup to a cup of juice and fruit. I make my cranberry salad with: 1 orange, 1 apple, 2 cups of cranberries, 2 cups of strawberries, about 1 cup of fresh pineapple, put all these ingredients in food processor and process until they are in small pieces, add about ½ cup of chia seeds and a little stevia or sugar to taste. Let set for a few hours in the refrigerator. It is beautiful and Delicious!
Flax seeds are excellent added to breads, or grind them and sprinkle them over cooked cereals, boxed cold cereals and sprinkled over all kinds of savory dishes. Note: Grind Flax seeds in a coffee grinder and consume immediately as once they are ground they are not shelf stable and turn rancid very quickly.
